Thor: Love and Thunder

Thor: Love and Thunder is a comedic and heartfelt thrill ride from start to finish. The heart here also feels real and genuine. Taika Watiti brings his signature blend of dark tones and slapstick comedy to this sequel which feels like Thor: Ragnarok on steroids. However in this film it comes across very unbalanced between the comedy and dark tones.

Chris Hemsworth brings his comedic charm and charisma back to the lead role with plenty of emotion for the dramatic scenes. Natalie Portman is a fresh addition in her role as The Mighty Thor. She is hilarious and breathes new life into her character. Sadly Tessa Thompson and Taika Watiti don’t get much to do in this movie other then be plot devices later in the film.

This film is very colorful and vibrant. Every outfit and scene stands out. However most of the CGI looks incomplete or out of place. This movie was mostly filmed on a soundstage and in most scenes it’s very obvious. The movie does go into new locations in space which add more the overall MCU.

While the acting is some of these actors best in the MCU and the colors are a spectacle, it doesn’t get past this films problems. The pacing is too fast and could benefit from about 20 minutes of more footage to slowdown the more dramatic moments. While this movie is a comedy, it has a whiplash effect on how it goes from really sad or heavy moments to slapstick comedy in a rapid fashion. Leaving viewers unsure how to feel. The film is a fun addition to the franchise and gets a solid 3/5 stars.
